Control assessment – Stage 1: Inform Yourself 1. 1) What is the citizenship issue you have chosen? What is the reason and why do you think it’s important? As a group, the first thing we needed to decide on is which task to choose, at the end we democratically concluded to choose task 1, which requires us to “Select a voluntary organisation or a pressure group, investigate their work and take action to advocate their aims” For this task we had to choose a particular organisation and advocate them, as a group we collectively agreed that Comic Relief should be chosen.

The reason why we bought into the idea of advocating Comic Relief is because we all strongly agree that every human being has rights, and we feel it’s our responsibility to help those who are less fortunate to attain their rights. We all recognised that Comic Relief is perfect to help cure poverty all around the world. Another reason we chose this group was because of the immense amount of people they had helped. 10,000,000 people protected from malaria, 750,000 voices have been heard and 72,437 children have received an education… All due to Comic Relief!

The main reason I believe poverty is a hugely important issue because people in poverty tend to resort to crime in order to attain their income, and the poor are then labelled and stereotyped as criminals, which is why they are spitted upon in society. Especially if you are a child and you’re growing up in poverty, you will be psychologically affected. Which is why I believe to construct a better future, you will need to eradicate poverty. The reason I believe this issue is extremely important, is because of the staggering figures. Every 6 minutes a child dies of hunger.

So that means every 6 minutes one innocent young innocent human being dies of poverty, so 240 children are dying every 24 hours. A recent report on Channel 4 News also states that poverty figures are rising. So I feel a great way to help get rid of poverty is through advocating Comic Relief. I personally believe this issue brings high morality to me, because by advocating Comic Relief to someone, they may act upon what I have said, therefore helping one unfortunate child to live his well deserved life. Also poverty plays a part in other anti – social behaviour such as stereo typing and racism.

Africans are usually stereotyped to thugs because they are from a background where people are living in poverty and forced to do crime to earn income. So decimating poverty will also reduce stereotypes and racism. I think Comic Relief are a great issue to have chosen because Comic Relief have the ability to gain celebrity advocacy to influence young adults to take part in their events, even if the child does not have the funds to donate himself, he can take part by attending some of Comic Reliefs’ events, influencing their parents to take part in Comic Relief etc.

Comic Relief is also an international organisation, meaning they help all different countries, not only UK. Comic Relief also holds a lot of entertaining events, to attract a range of audience. Throughout our advocacy, we had to use a range of citizenship skills and concepts. We would have to use the citizenship concept democracy. We will make use of this concept by taking votes on most, if not all, decision that we make, this will make sure that everyone’s views have been considered and it will give everyone an equal opportunity.

Another citizenship concept we will have to use is fairness; we will make use of this concept my using democracy and giving everyone an equal opportunity. We will also have to use the concept of rights and responsibilities. Everyone in the world has certain rights and someone has a responsibility to fulfil them. We will have use of this concept by allowing everyone to speak and give their views. We will also give each other certain responsibilities which they will have fulfil to make our advocacy successful.

Throughout our advocacy we will be talking about people in poverty and their rights which we will help Comic Relief to fulfil. Another concept we will have to use is planning. Planning and preparation is everything in life, if you don’t plan properly you will not advance far. We will make use of this concept by attending various meetings within our group to plan what we are going to do on certain days, and how we will do it. Throughout our advocacy we will have to make use of the concept change.

The main reason we will be advocating Comic Relief is because we want to make a change in our community and want to make a change to unfortunate people’s lives. We will also have to use the citizenship concept equal opportunity. Equal opportunity means to give everyone the same chance to do something, in other words take everyone’s view into consideration. We will make use of equal opportunities by using democracy in all decisions we make, we will give everyone a vote on what to do. Another concept we will use is making a difference. Throughout our advocacy we will be using this concept because our whole aim is to make a difference.

The difference we will be trying to make is to help reduce the issue of poverty We will also be using the concept of identity. We believe that everyone in the world should have an identity. We believe everyone in the world should have a say in society. We will make use of this concept by using democracy in every decision we make, we will do this by making everyone vote in every decision. Another concept we will be using raising awareness, we will use this because throughout our advocacy we will need to raise awareness of Comic Relief.

We will also be using the role of the media during our advocacy we will be using alot of media to get our points across and help us advocate Comic Relief. And most importantly throughout our advocacy we will be using the citizenship concept advocacy itself, because that is what we are doing; we have ‘advocating’ Comic Relief. Throughout our advocacy we will have to be equipped with a range of citizenship skills, one of which will be Critical thinking and the ability to be able to make judgements. We will have to be able to think critically and make good judgements and choices throughout our advocacy.

We will have to make judgements on the roles and responsibilities of each other and if something goes wrong, how can we make it wrong. We will also have to be able to represent Comic Relief, because to make others get involved with what Comic Relief are doing, we will have to represent them and make them look as good as they really are. We will all have to participate actively and work collaboratively to achieve maximum success in our advocacy. We will all have to work as a group and collectively, to cover each other’s flaws and support each other’s strengths.

We will also have to be able to evaluate our work because our controlled assessment requires us to be able to evaluate and assess what impact our advocacy has had. We will also have to be able to make decisions and give informed opinions on our own views, this way we will be able to have a strong sense of democracy throughout our group. It will also allow everyone’s views to be considered in every decision we make. We will also have to be able to negotiate with each other regarding certain things. We will have to negotiate about our roles and responsibilities etc.

We will also hold different meeting to negotiate different things, this will further help us work together as a group. Finally we will have to be able to tolerate one another because nobody is perfect and everyone will make mistakes, and we will have to be able to tolerate that and move on. 1. 2) What are your aims? We have a variety of aims, some of which are: * Raise awareness of Comic Relief * Get people involved in Comic Relief * To gain more information and knowledge about Comic Relief * To become an active citizen * And ultimately cut down poverty around the world 1. ) Identify the research that you need to do and how you will carry out To clinch successful advocacy we have to attain knowledge about Comic Relief, because they are who we are advocating. We would have to find out about different people opinions on Comic Relief and their basic knowledge about Comic Relief; this would also help us to evaluate our advocacy. Aswell as those things we would also need to research about: We would need to find out who Comic Relief is and who have they got involved, and we need to find out that because without the knowledge of who Comic Relief is we would not be able to advocate the organisation properly.

Many of kids gets attracted to something because a celebrity has become involved in it, and since Comic Relief has acquired celebrity help children will be more attracted. We would need to know what Comic Relief does, because to advocate them we should be able to show the many great things what Comic Relief has done over the past years, to make them understand that this company is legitimate We would also need to find out why Comic Relief do what they do, because this area tends to gain affection and sympathy for the children who are suffering around the world.

This way more parents will be involved We would need to be able to identify when they hold events such as Red Nose Day, Sports relief etc so if people want to be involved they can. We would need to know where they do their events and where in the world they help, so people could understand if this organisation national, or international. We would need to find out where the events are just in case people want to get involved in the event.

We would need to know how Comic Relief campaigns to inform our audience how Comic Relief works to persuade them furthermore that Comic Relief is a legitimate campaign which aims to help less fortunate kids all around the world whether they are handicapped or poor. The methods we have chosen to gather information about Comic Relief is: * Getting information directly off the Comic Relief website We could use this to find out little bits of everything Getting information off encyclopaedias such as Wikipedia etc We could find out what they’ve done in the past, and all the celebrities involved etc * Unofficial Comic Relief site such as BBC We could use this to help us promote Comic Relief through media etc * Teachers We will need teachers to ask on things that we need help on if we don’t understand it. * Public and community We will need to ask the public and community on what they already know about Comic Relief so we can advocate the appropriate information only.

The methods are appropriate because they are a huge, reliable source of information and are linked with the organisation. Without the use of these things, our task will fail. 1. 4) Identify how you will explore a range of views within your group and the opinions of others about your issue (e. g. what others think about it –historic and contemporary views. ) While we were voting for which organisation to pick, I was pleased when Comic Relief was looking the more likely choice, because I am very disturbed about the horrendous issue of poverty.

The view that was running through our group was a pleasant view, we all share the same feeling of hate for poverty and how by advocating Comic Relief we can actually help to cut down poverty. The feeling of being able to help someone who is less fortunate than you felt good morally. We feel that poverty is one of the main murderers in our world today, so by advocating this organisation we will be helping one more person to survive. We also intend to get views off other students, teachers, parents, councillors and of course the wider public.

We were also delighted to hear that famous celebrities have worked with Comic Relief; this would make it easier for us to encourage young people to get involved with Comic Relief. Other people also share the same view of Comic Relief by supporting them, and many famous people who have a say in society have helped Comic Relief e. g. David Beckham, Peter Crouch, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and many more. All these celebrities, as you can tell share the same view as us, the view that poverty is a plague and should be eradicated from the world. 1. 5) Who else is in your group?

How did you decide who to work together with? We were fortunate enough to have the ability to be flexible and establish our own group democratically. The people in our group are: Yaqoob Matin (I), Muhammad Gangat, Muhammad Pandor, Najm Ahmed, Abdullahi Ali and Mohammed Mahmood. Muhammad Gangat was democratically chosen to be the group leader, meaning we voted for him to be group leader because of his great co-ordination skills. I was chosen to be in the group because I was passionate about Comic Relief and I would give my 110% in a task I have been given, I would also love to help others in their roles aswell.

I am also good with software so this could be a prime asset in our advocacy and advertising. Muhammad Pandor can be slothful at times, but when he sets his mind to something, he will achieve his target with flying colours. He is good with talking and preparing questions. Najm Ahmed was chosen to be in the group, because whatever he does, he does it with enthusiasm; he can keep the team going because of his jolliness. He is good with designing and posters and talking. Abdullahi Ali was chosen to be in our group because his ability to obtain knowledge from big long essays.

He is good with researching and good with obtaining knowledge. This is also a prime asset we need to have to achieve successful advocacy for Comic Relief. Mohammed Mahmood was absent a couple of lessons and therefore ultimately left with no group when he returned. No group was willing to take him because he is known as one of the weaker students in our class, but our group felt that taking him on would help us achieve our citizenship concepts and skills. Mohammed, although he is one of the weaker students, I believe with the right amount of pushing we can utilise his full potential. . 6) Describe the roles and responsibilities that you each have and how you made these decisions. As our entire group has roles and responsibilities, I have mine too. For this task my role and responsibility will be creating and organising the presentation to gain advocacy. Our group democratically agreed me to be the organiser of the presentation because I have superior PowerPoint skills and software skills etc. Muhammmad Gangat was given the role and responsibility of being the group leader, and is very organised and helps our group work together.

He is also given the role of helping others with their roles. Muhammad Pandor was given the responsibility of conducting and conveying surveys to gain information. He was given this responsibility because he is good with research and asks great questions etc. Abdullahi will be in charge of researching information in order to help our advocacy of Comic Relief. He will gain information to help me fill out the presentation by giving me what to write. Muhammad Mahmood has a role of helping Abdullahi Ali to obtain valuable research and information.

Control assessment – Stage 2: Justify choices/Prepare the case 2. 1) who will be in the audience? Are there any ‘important’ people/decision makers? The important people and decision makers would be our audience itself, which is of course Lantern of Knowledge students and teachers, but I plan to invite a minister or a council member over to listen to our presentation. That would really help if we have the support of a minister backing our advocacy. I also hope to advocate Comic Relief to other people outside of our school; I plan to do so by handing out leaflets and questionnaires etc.

I also wish to encourage students to go home and inform their parents what Comic Relief is, that way it could spread faster and through our advocacy, Comic Relief could help save thousands. The reason they are the important people is because they are who count, our audience, meaning the community of Lantern of Knowledge are the ones who can make a change to the world, by helping Comic Relief to eradicate poverty from our world, they will also spread the message which will make a big impact on poverty and support our campaign. 2. 2) what is your message?

What ‘change’ do you want to achieve (e. g. awareness, attitude, policy, behaviour)? The change I would like to achieve is to reduce, if not eradicate the poverty rates, because at the moment the poverty rates are increasing. I strongly and most passionately feel that poverty is one of the major issues in our world today, because of poverty innocent children are dying, people are getting stereotyped, poverty is also a major contributor to racism. I also strongly believe that every human have rights and some unfortunate innocent human beings are not able to fulfil their rights due to poverty.

I feel all of these points should be felt by everyone in the world and I feel everyone should help Comic Relief to help innocent children and adults who are not fortunate enough to have a shelter, to have water, to have food and to have clean clothes. I also hope to raise awareness of all the global issues in the world today, by campaigning against them and helping to raise awareness of the issue like we are doing. 2. 3) what are the key points to put across? The key points I want to put across is to take part in Comic Relief, either by donating, attending their events or by sponsoring a person in poverty.

I want to also help eradicate poverty from our society. I want to make our audience understand how it feels to be living in poverty, so that it could affect them and they will take part more actively. Another key point I wish to put across is that everyone in the world is equal, everyone should be given equal opportunities and racism and discrimination should not exist in the world. 2. 4) what types of presentation or media will you use to get the message across? We would present our information in forms of leaflets, flyers, posters, PowerPoint presentation and we may even have a few talks and speeches.

The reason we will use leaflets and flyers is because they are portable and they hold a strong point in advocacy. It is pocket sized so just in case someone needs information about Comic Relief; they can take the leaflet/flyer out of their pocket and utilise it. We would also put posters around the school and important places in streets, because posters are eye-catching and it gets people glued and makes them want to read and it can provide valuable information in very few words or pictures.

PowerPoint presentation is also great because a lot of younger students love and enjoy watching things, so the use of a PowerPoint presentation shall entertain them as well as inform and persuade them. In the leaflets and poster it will include various different facts about Comic Relief and what their contact details are. The posters and leaflets are focused around trying to influence our target group to find out more about Comic Relief. This will then lead them onto our Comic Relief PowerPoint presentation.

The information the PowerPoint will contain will be information about Comic Relief, such as their contact details, what they’ve achieved, where do the help in, and why would you choose Comic Relief? All of this information will convince them to donate to Comic Relief and support Comic Relief and spread the word. 2. 5) why have you chosen this/these types of presentation/media? We have chosen flyers and leaflets because they are portable and can be used anywhere and taken with you wherever you go, so if I hand out a flyer to someone in the morning rushing to work, they may not have the time to read it at the time, ut later on they may take it out and read it when they are less busy. We chose to use posters because posters hold a strong point in advocacy and it can be very eye-catching if made well. It also gives loads of information in a few words. We also chose to use PowerPoint presentation because the use of PowerPoint and visual things really attract younger audiences, and our audience is our Lantern of Knowledge students, so throughout our advocacy we hope that the students will be entertained aswell as informed and influenced. . 6) describe how you intend to find out what impact the advocacy had We intend to find out what impact my advocacy had by handing out surveys after our advocacy… Before we started our advocacy we handed out surveys to see what level of knowledge our target group already had about Comic Relief, this is just a plan to help us evaluate the impact our advocacy had at the end when we hand out another set of surveys to see what they have all learnt about Comic Relief.

We also plan to ask before the presentation, to show a quick show of hands to see how many people knew what about Comic Relief, and only a minority raised their hands, once the presentation had ended we asked for a quick show of hands and then there was a majority of people who knew stuff about Comic Relief, this shows our advocacy was successful I also plan to personally assess some of the impact, by going to students and asking them individually what they have learnt and ask them a few questions. 2. 7) How long will this take?

We presume it should take 1 and a half weeks or 2 weeks because we will have to collectively research for valuable information, aswell as attain the information of how much knowledge our audience already have knowledge about to help structure our presentation to be as successful as it possibly can be. It will take time for us to find out information about Comic Relief; it will also take us more time to interpret what our target group knows about Comic Relief, so we can advocate what they don’t know, instead of wasting their time advocating and informing them of what they already know of.

This will take approximately 3 days It will take time for us to prepare our work, we have to get together all the information, produce the posters and leaflets Control assessment Stage 3 – Advocacy and Taking action 3. 1) how did you carry out your advocacy/action? Our advocacy took place over duration of 3 days. On 25th of October we planned out how we will conduct our practical. We decided who should be presenting the Presentation, who should hand out the surveys etc.

We democratically came to the conclusion that we should all help in the presentation, by 4 of us reading out the presentation and interacting with the audience, while 2 other take care of the actual presentation itself, for the surveys we issued 2 people to hand out and collect surveys to their own appointed class. On the first day of our advocacy, which was on the 26th of October 2011, we handed out our surveys, to be informed of how much our target group knows about our organisation.

When the surveys was finished, one of us would summarise the answers, and inform us what to alter in the presentation according to the target groups knowledge, in order to raise awareness better and make a bigger difference. The first batch of surveys was crucial to our advocacy, because without the surveys our advocacy would’ve been less effective. On the second day of our advocacy, which was on the 27th of October 2011, we commenced the presentation itself.

The idea for the presentation was feed them the knowledge of Comic Relief in the presentation, and in the ending of the presentation we would interact with our audience, asking them questions based on the presentation itself, and if they got one correct we would reward them with a sticker which we attained from contacting Comic Relief. The idea was to give each child and equal opportunity to win a sticker, so no one would feel left out.

We felt stickers would do a magnificent job because of 2 things, one is that our target group is a young audience, and audiences like so tend to enjoy having stickers, especially if they have more stickers than their friends, and also when they go home their parents shall see a Comic Relief logo on their Childs chest, further advocating our organisation to more people. In the presentation there were precisely 7 slides.

The first slide was an introduction to what we where advocating, which was of course Comic Relief, regarding the issues of poverty. The first slide did also ask the audience to listen carefully and remain silent throughout the presentation. The second slide was about what are Comic Relief, it told them what Comic Relief are and how many days a year they work etc. The third slide tells the audience who Comic Relief helps; it also had an affectionate picture in the background to make the audience open their hearts.

The fourth slide was another affectionate picture, but this time it was only a picture and a question, which asked them, “Look at the picture, what do you feel? ” The main idea of this was to get the audience thinking and to make them feel pain for those in poverty. The picture was rather thought provoking; it was a picture of a little child eating bread off the floor. The fifth slide was facts and figures about Comic Relief to make them see all the magnificent stuff Comic Relief done to help eradicate poverty.

The sixth slide was a semi-signing off by showing the a well laid out poster which brings feelings of motivation and hope, it was a kid in poverty who’s hands where so small holding hands with a person who isn’t suffering from poverty, the picture gave me and presumably the audience a sense of hope, that we could help eradicate poverty by helping Comic Relief. The last slide was the actual signing off which said by and told the audience details of Comic Relief if they wanted to donate etc. Unfortunately for the presentation day I was absent due to illness, but I’m certain my group did magnificent with the advocacy of Comic Relief.

And finally on the last day of our advocacy, which was on the 28th of October, we handed out our last batch of surveys, this survey was to evaluate the impact that we made on our target group. It would show us the difference we’ve made and if we accomplished what we set out to do. 3. 2) what evidences did you gather and how? We have a variety of evidences we’ve gathered, some of which are: Slides of presentation, Posters, Surveys, Leaflets, The research MS word files, a screenshot of our letter to Comic relief, a screenshot of our letter to councillors and lastly the resources we gained from Comic Relief.

We gathered them by just collecting what our members have made and saving them, so if it was a poster we would have made multiple copies and kept one, and we created a backup of the presentation to use as evidence. Control assessment Stage 4 – Assess the Impact 4. 1) how did your task affect other in your community? I believe we have made a tremendous difference in our community, because through our advocacy we have changed 120 people’s opinions on Comic Relief, and through those 120 people they may inform their friends, and their amily, and through their friends and family they will spread it more and more, so through our advocacy we have directly raised awareness to 120 people but indirectly may have changed thousands of people opinions on Comic Relief, thus helping to eradicate the issue of poverty. I believe our task affected others in the community in a moral way. Most of the people we advocated to now understand how lucky they are because they have good clothes, food, water, toys, facilities etc. This will make them feel more obliged to donate towards Comic Relief to help the less fortunate and the needy out. . 2) how effective was your advocacy? Draw conclusions from the evidence you have gathered. I believe our advocacy was successful because out of 120 students 100 percent now know what Comic Relief is, and 80 percent know how they work and what events they hold etc. Through our advocacy 100% of the students wanted to know more, I know they wanted to know more because they took our leaflets. I believe we have made a huge difference collaboratively as a group because a large percentage of the students I asked wanted and were interested into attending some of Comic Reliefs events.

I believe we have gained a tremendous amount of followers for Comic Relief and more importantly I believe more people are donating and helping the needy because of our advocacy. 4. 3) did you persuade people to think/change their view/support your case? In what ways? Before our advocacy commenced nearly everyone in our target group knew nothing or close to nothing about Comic Relief, after our presentation 80% of our target group had basic knowledge of what Comic Relief is, or what they do and how they do it. 5% would want to get involved with Comic Reliefs events. I believe 100% of our target group are keen to know more about Comic Relief. Allot of our target group know the stats and figures of how much Comic Relief has helped. So I genuinely believe we have made a tremendous difference in raising awareness of the issue of poverty and how Comic Relief can help solve the issue. 4. 4) did your advocacy/action have any impact on the wider world as a result of peoples changed attitude? In what ways?

The world is in conflict with poverty, I believe that our advocacy has made an impact of the wider world because through our advocacy we have directly changed our target groups opinion and ethics towards poverty. Directly we have possibly changed 120 people’s opinions, which indirectly could change thousands of people’s opinions because our target group could influence their friends and family about Comic Relief, and their friends and family could influence their friends and family. So through our advocacy thousands have a better opinion on poverty and feel they could help Comic Relief solve the issue of poverty. . 5) describe what future action you could take to pursue your issue. We still can do more to help tackle the issue of poverty and restore fairness, I believe I can advertise Comic Relief on some of my blogs and forums to raise awareness to more people, occasionally some of our group members will try and hand out posters, leaflets and flyers out in public. I myself will try and attend some of Comic Reliefs events and tag a few friends to come along, so we can help donate. I will also try more advocacy on social networking sites. Stage 5 – Reflect and Evaluate. 5. ) what were the different views and opinions about your issue? In our group aswell as our target group, there was a range of different opinions, ranging from very passionate about the issue of poverty to some feeling that saving the earth from global warming is a much more critical issue. In the end of our advocacy there were still views that the planet it a bigger issue than poverty, but more of the target group feel that poverty is a bigger issue, because even though that sustainable development is an issue that affects everybody directly, poverty is a much more sorrowful issue which should affect everyone.

I believe our advocacy has also changed opinions and views of parents and adults, because before my advocacy I asked a couple of adults and parents how they felt about poverty, and most of them responded saying they feel it’s bad but not as bad as crime and global warming, one adult in particular said he didn’t care at all. After our advocacy I asked a few of them again and they said they felt it was a very grim issue and they were very passionate about helping to resolve poverty. 5. ) what citizenship skills did you learn and use in this activity? The main citizenship skill and concept I have learn and used throughout our advocacy is how to campaign, because our advocacy was a campaign to help resolve the issue of poverty by advocating Comic Relief. A citizenship skill I have learnt during my advocacy is how to actively participate. Throughout our advocacy I was made to actively participate because a lot of the main advocacy depended on me, and I didn’t want to let my group down.

I had to create a presentation to show our target group what Comic Relief was, which a prime aspect of our advocacy was. I also learn how to tolerate some of my group members. During the advocacy a certain student whose role was to do research didn’t fulfil his job, which left me in a crisis because in order to do my job I needed some valuable information and research. Fortunately I was able to tolerate this and receive work off another person who was fully committed and did excellent amount of work.

I also learnt how to think critically because during my dilemma of not having research from a particular student I had to think what to do, and asked the other student to do a little more research so I can successfully finish the presentation in time. Another citizenship concept I learn was giving informed opinions, because during our negotiations and group talks with our group, I had to give my opinion on what we should do and how we should structure our advocacy to a more efficient way. And finally another citizenship skill I learn is how to evaluate.

At the beginning of our advocacy we gave out a survey, and at the end we gave out another survey. We then evaluated the surveys and saw the differences from before and after. I also learn how to evaluate when I asked our target group “how good do you think our advocacy was? ” 5. 3) has this task helped you to understand more about citizenship issues and concepts? Indeed. I feel from this task of advocating Comic Relief I have become softer. I have realised that I need to tolerate things more often and have to fulfil my responsibilities and attain my rights.

I have realised there are a lot of global challenges and conflicts in the world, one of which is of course the issue of poverty, but there are also other issues such as sustainable development, racism and discrimination and crime. I have learnt how to raise awareness and work collaboratively. I have learnt how to actively participate and how the role of the media can help me advocate anything. I have learnt by campaigning effectively I can make a difference and help restore fairness and justice. 5. 4) how did your contribution make this task successful?

I believe my contribution was vital to our advocacy. I was individually given the critical task of creating and preparing the presentation, which was the biggest thing in our advocacy. If I failed to do my task I believe all of our advocacy would have failed. After our presentation a lot more of our target group knew much more about Comic Relief. My task was so important that it had to be given a specific day and the presentation had to be planned out. I believe my contribution was necessary and without my contribution, we would have indeed failed.

Throughout the advocacy I was collaboratively and actively participating. After I had finished my presentation I helped others. I also prepared a few posters. 5. 5) what did others do to make the task successful? (People working in your group/any others who helped)? I helped by making the presentation and helping others with posters and evaluation etc. My entire group also played a critical role in our advocacy. Muhammad Gangat was the group leader, so he had the job of organising everything and keeping people in place, without his skills our actions would have overlapped and we would have failed.

Najm Ahmed had the important role of making eye-catching and influencing posters and leaflets, he had to create the leaflets in order to attain our target group’s attention and further influence them into joining Comic Relief’s events, without Najm doing his job we wouldn’t have been able to influence more people and would stop the flow of our advocacy. Mohammed Mahmood and Abdullahi Ali had the most important role, their role was to find enhanced information about Comic Relief and then supply the information to the rest of the group.

They both had the role to research about Comic Relief, and my task was connected to theirs, because in my presentation I had to present the information I have attained from their research. Mohammad Mahmood didn’t do the research he was asked to do, leaving me in a crisis of what to write. Abdullahi Ali was very enthusiastic and decided to do it all himself, and fortunately he was able to do all of the research I needed to make the presentation successful. Overall I believe everyone in our group was passionate and enthusiastic about their role, and everyone’s role was critical.

Everyone except one fulfilled their role, but was later made up by another group member. 5. 6) to what extent did you achieve your aims? I believe we have achieved all our aims, and I myself have achieved some of my personal aims I set for myself. What we set out to do before we advocated was to: Raise awareness of Comic Relief Successfully advocate Comic Relief To get people involved in Comic Reliefs events And to help cut down poverty I believe we have achieve each of those aims because before we did our advocacy, less than 20% of our school knew what Comic Relief is, now over 90% knows what Comic Relief is.

A lot of people are interested in Comic Relief know that they know how Comic Relief helps and who they help, and a lot more people would love to get involved in Comic Reliefs events. Finally, I believe we have helped to cut down poverty a lot. I have seen a lot more of our target group donating, not only to Comic Relief, but to other charities aswell. Infact after our advocacy a charity organisation came to our school, and held a donating competition, our school raised ? 1,200 which was all going towards poor and unfortunate people. 5. ) did your advocacy / action has any unintended consequences? Our advocacy may have caused a little bit of disunity between the people who did their work and Muhammed Mahmood because we all felt we gave everything in our tasks and he was very lethargic and didn’t care at all about the advocacy. In addition to that, the MP that we had requested to come in and talk on behalf of us, in regards to helping poverty and supporting Comic Relief, but because of his heavy schedule he couldnt make it and said he could only come in on the 16th of January 2012.

We said it will be fine if he didnt talk about Comic Relief because our controlled assessment wouldve then been finished. 5. 8) what changes did you make to your plans? What could you have done to improve your advocacy? We had to change our plans when Mohammed Mahmood failed to do his research, so we had to get someone to do the research, or we had to split it between us. Abdullahi Ali decided to take the role of doing Mohammed Mahmoods research and he didn’t let us down.

We also had to change our plans when we invited the MP over; his schedule was too hectic to be able to help us in our advocacy. I also believe my group had to change their plans on presentation day, where I was turn ill and was not able to come into school to help my group out, but nevertheless we still accomplished our aims and successfully advocated Comic Relief, but I believe if I was there on presentation day it may have been a little more better because I wanted to interact with the audience and ask them questions in exchange for a sticker or balloon etc.
