Links to the midlands Many of the plotters had strong links to the midlands. For instance, the leader of the group Robert Catesby his mums house was Ashby St Ledgers , this house was the focus for the hunting party , which was to become the rising in the midlands. Clopton was rented from lord Carew by abrose Rookwood, for a base in the midlands. In warwick , they broke into warwick castle to get new horses this is where they started to get followed by Sir Richard walsh, sheriff of warwickshire. in norbrook they met rookwood and grant ,Rookwood was to provide the horse for the rising. n dunchurch , if the plot went well this is where they would have set out to seize princess Elizabeth . Coughton Court , is where the plotters asked Father Garnet to join but he refused because of the consequences, Father Tesimond joined the plotters. Lady Digby sent fresh horses out to the plotters. The plotters took mass in a secret room . Hewell Grange was home to lord Windsor, the brother of John talbot . They went to his house to get weapons and gunpowder. Hagley hall was refuge to the winters before their capture , which is on the A 491.

Hudington was Robert winters house , this is where thomas winter , bates and father tesimond joined the band . Holbech house was home to stephen stephen littleton , this was the house where the band was caught and the plot came to a close . An alternative version of plot James 1 upset many Catholics by forcing them to attend Anglican church services , robert cecil didnt like catholics so he thought that it would be a good time to make the catholics look even worse. The leader of the plot was Robert Catesby(secertly robert cecil).

The plan was to get innocent catholics getting caught blowing up the house of lords on the opening day of parliament , the reason behind this was so that the catholics cannot be trusted. Robert cecil told his close friend and royal offical john whyynniard to rent the cellar to Thomas percy who was a discontented catholic and been watched by goverment spies for over a year and knew he was a dangerous man and hostle to the king . All gunpowder in the country was controlled by the goverment and the offical in charge of the gunpowder was robert cecil .

Robert cecil gave the gunpowder to them in the tower of london , then destroyed the gunpowder records so he wouldnt get caught . A letter was sent to lord mounteagle warning him of the plot sent by robert cecil at his home , lord mounteagle would be at his home that one night in the year , robert cecil saw him go home and knew he would be there and definatly got the letter . the letter was delivered in a disguised mask so that nobody knew it was him, he sent it to lord mounteagle so it didnt look like he had anything to do with the plot , so no one gets suspicous, and also he sent it to lord mounteagle because he was previously a catholic and as fined lots of money , so he wants to prove to the king he can be a good protestant . Lord mounteagle immediately took the letter to Robert cecil, because he did not understand the letter and didnt want to look stupid infront of the king. Robert cecil waited 8 days to act on the letter , he waited until the last moment because then he knew that guy fawks would be waiting to set fire to all the gunpowder . robert cecil that morning klilled john whyniard , so he didnt tell anyone that he was behind all of this.

The king and the government struck – and guy Fawks was arrested and he was tortured. At first he refused to break his oath of silence, but he eventually did. when the plotters found out that guy fawks was caught they headed to the midlands. Robert cecil was head of the spies and he had spies spying on the plotters so they knew where they were , so the goverment were able to catch and surrond the plotters very quickly at holbeach house.

Some of the plotters when they were caught were shoot dead , so they didnt say anything about robert cecil . One of the plotters , Francis tresham ,wasnt arrested with the others . When they were in court there origanal confessions were not shown , cecil had new ones made or either lord mounteagles name was smuged of pasted out . No witnesses were called out . The rest of the plotters were sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quartered. The other conspirators were soon captured or killed . They were taken to the tower of London.
