Stereotypes Essay

There is a stereotype for almost everything. Some of which I’ve never even heard of or thought about. The stereotype I have chosen to write about is that boys are better at sports than girls. This is a huge stereotype but some people still believe it, which makes no sense. Then again, most stereotypes make no sense. Lolo Jones, Allyson Felix, Carmelita Jeter, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce and Sanya Richards-Ross are some examples of girls who won “Fastest woman in the world” and received gold and silver medal in track and field

Lolo Jones and Allyson Felix are two examples to prove that girls can be just as good, if not better than boys at sports. Lolo Jones is an American track and field athlete who specializes in the 60 and 100 meter hurdles. She won three NCAA titles and 11 All-American honors while at LSU (the college she went to). She won national titles in 2007, 2008, and 2009 in the 60m hurdles, with gold medals at the World Indoor Championship in 2008 and 2012. She was favored to win the 100m hurdles at the 2008 Olympics, but tripped on the hurdle, finishing in 7th place.

Carmelita is an American sprinter who specializes in the 100 meters. She is the second fastest woman of all time and the current champion in the 100 meters! Jeter got 10. 64 seconds in her 100m race which made her the second fastest woman ever in the 100m. Currently she holds three of the top ten times ever run. Sanya Richards-Ross is a Jamaican American track and field athlete.

Richards-Ross won the Olympic gold medal in the 4×400 meters relay at the 2004 Olympic games in Athens, the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China and in London 2012 Olympics. The following year, Richards-Ross became World Champion, winning a gold medal in the 400m race at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin! She won the gold medal in the 400m at the 2012 Olympics. She is a Jamaican track and field sprinter. In 2012, she successfully defended her 100m title, becoming third woman- and first non-American- to win two consecutive 100m events at the Olympics. Fraser-Pryce is also the second female sprinter to hold both World and Olympic 100m titles simultaneously. Nicknamed the “pocket rocket” for her petite frame and explosive starts, she is ranked fourth on the list of the fastest 100m female sprinters of all time, with a personal best of 1. 70 seconds, set in Jamaica in 2012.
